If your air conditioning isn't cooling properly, adding refrigerant isn't always the answer. The system needs to be checked first to understand why it isn't performing as it should.
There's more to it than just gas.
Start with the symptom
When car air conditioning stops cooling properly, searching for a car A/C regas is a common first step. But poor cooling is a symptom, not a diagnosis, and it does not identify the cause on its own.
A regas should be the result of a diagnosis, not the diagnosis itself.
What regassing means
Where appropriate, a car air conditioning regas restores the refrigerant charge to the correct level. It is one possible part of A/C servicing or repairs, rather than the automatic answer to every system that is not cooling well.
Assessment before action
Poor cooling can have different causes. The system needs to be assessed first so the correct next step can be determined. That may be a regas, attention to a leak or fault, or another A/C repair.

When to have it checked
None of these signs proves that the vehicle needs a regas. They are reasons to have the car air conditioning checked.
